Are you planning a family vacation this coming winter? If you’re scouting for places where you and your kids can go, the state of Vermont in the United States is a perfect destination to consider.

Vermont plays host to the Green Mountains and is the premiere skiing and snowboarding destination on the East Coast. The state has many snow and ski resorts which you can choose from. Among the most popular are West Dover’s Mount Snow with brilliant terrain parks, Stratton Mountain Resort with its top-of-the-line amenities and accommodations, and Killington with the number one terrain for skiing in all of Vermont. Up north, we have Mad River Glen, Stowe Mountain Resort and Sugarbush which all offer their own brand of luxuries to locals and visitors alike.

However, family vacations aren’t like most vacations. Below are 3 of Vermont’s most family-friendly snow resorts, based from user reviews, amenities and facilities.

1. Bromley Mountain

Bromley is a mountain in the Green Mountains. Known as “The Sun Mountain”, it is the only ski area in New England with a southern exposure, which guarantees a sunny and enjoyable ski time! Bromley first opened its doors to visitors in 1936, and it is being upgraded regularly to keep up with modern snowmaking systems and to offer the highest quality of skiing and riding over its 300 acre. Operating from November until early-April, this resort hosts 46 classic New England trails with a variety of terrain to suit every skill level. Many deals and specials are available. Bromley has probably the most family-friendly atmosphere found anywhere in Vermont. If you want to teach your children skiing or snowboarding, Bromley Ski/Board School offers fun and safe lessons for little kids and teens in specially designed learning environments. SKI Magazine voted Bromley #1 for Family Programs and #3 for Value in the East! In addition, Bromley also has a ski shop, rentals and equipment repairs. Child care facility is provided for kids aged 6 weeks to six years, and there is a first aid area and clinic 4 miles away. Visitors can dine at a full-service restaurant and bar at the base. Bromley is situated just 7 miles off of Manchester, where you can visit Vermont’s top shopping chains.

Magic Mountain is located on Glebe Mountain in Londonderry and opened from December through April. Unlike many other resorts in New England, at Magic Mountain you have an opportunity to ski and ride off trails, i. e. anywhere within its territory. Magic Mountain’s Snowsports Learning Center offers various programs for skiers of all levels and ages. For kids ages 5-12 there is a Magic Wizards program, half- or full-day lessons in skiing or snowboarding.  Although the ski resort is small, the ambiance of this place is unlike any other. People here are friendly and welcoming, which makes an already great vacation even more exceptional! After a day of adventure take your time to sit down and relax in the Black Line Tavern for a classic Vermont-style apres ski experience. The whole family can dine and lodge at the nearby towns, Chester and Londonderry. There is also a bar and restaurant available for visitors onsite.

South-central Vermont prides itself with Okemo Mountain Resort – a family-owned outdoor haven for the entire family. Rising above the village of Ludlow, it is open for visitors throughout the year, and the ski season here lasts from early November to late April. Okemo started out as a small community-run ski hill and then progressed on to become one of the top destinations in the country. It all began in 1982, when Tim and Diane Mueller bought the property and turned it into the world-class ski resort that we know it to be today. Here you will find a wide range of award-winning customized ski and snowboard programs for your children and a fully-licensed daycare facility for kids aged 6 months to 6 years. Okeomo provides amazing family offers (for example, skiing and riding for children ages 6 & under are free, and lodging for all children ages 12 & under is also free) and vacation package options (for example, you can save money when booking lodging and lift tickets together). Parents Magazine rated it the Top Family Snow Resort in the United States. Besides offering an exceptional skiing and riding experience with top snow quality and family-friendly terrain parks, Okemo also has many off-mountain activities to choose from, such as Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, ice-skating, a mountain coaster attraction and snow tubing. A great selection of amenities, first aid and a ski patrol are available here. And for overprotective moms, the nearest hospital is just 16 miles away.
