When choosing a holiday destination, it’s hard to go wrong. Our world is chock full of fascinating, stunning, and exciting destinations, but if you’re in the twenties era of your life, Southeast Asia should be topping your list of adventures to have. There’s a whole slew of reasons why ranging from the incredibly rich culture, learning about the people and lifestyle, tasting their food, and experiencing something, often vastly different, to your world. However, these reason are generally what you would expect to get out of any country you visit. Why Southeast Asia, and why in your twenties? These are the top four reasons explaining exactly that.

Because you’re still young…

Isn’t it bad enough many of you are stuck in a regular 9-5 already? Just think… That’s what you will probably be doing until you retire. Oh, yay! So when are you supposed to be young, wild, and adventurous again? You just spent literally your whole life in school, let’s do something exciting, daring, and yes, a bit crazy. Southeast Asia is perfect for that. Climbing volcanoes in the Philippines, ziplining across the jungle in Laos, and rock climbing karst cliffs in Thailand are things you technically can do at any age, but the question is, will you be able to? Do it now when you’re full of life and are more willing to take a some risks. Not to mention, tomorrow is never a promise.

And it’s so much fun…

Southeast Asia is a paradise for everyone, especially people in their twenties. It’s a place that’s full of adrenaline-inducing activities such as deep water solo rock climbing in Krabi,  base jumping in Kuala Lumpur, and extreme caving in Sagada. There’s of course beaches for miles and miles in every country, except Laos, unless you count the 4,000 islands floating around the Mekong River. And in case you didn’t know, it’s also home to some of the sickest parties on the planet like Full Moon parties in Koh Phangan and EDM Festivals in Jakarta and Manila.

It’s also a  place where many rules hover around the grey area. A perfect haven for people to let loose and have fun, but of course, let’s not take this too far and be stupid or disrespectful. Don’t be that person. Have fun, but be cool.

Because it’s cheap…

It’s an affordable place to travel, which is very important, especially to those twenty-somethings who are drowning in student loan debt, but still desperately need a holiday. Guesthouses in Thailand, Laos, and Indonesia will run you $5 and up, you can gorge yourself full of masala and naan in Malaysia, 3 square meals, for under $8, and a gorgeous island tour with snorkeling in Krabi, Thailand costs a measly $13. It is possible to live off of very little while you are here, and most people in their twenties aren’t rolling in the dough, so Southeast Asia is the place to go for an epic, yet cheap getaway.

And there are so many friends to make…

Oh, how many people there are to meet. Everywhere you turn, there’s a potential new friend. Many people from all around, and who are around your age, will be traveling around this part of the world. Australians, Europeans, Japanese, Koreans and more flock here for their holidays and you will be meeting a few random traveler friends at each of your destinations. It’s almost guaranteed. By the end of your holiday, you will have a couch to crash at in at least 3 countries and you will have offered yours many times as well.
