A golden moment on Reddit was when young man, Torbjørn C. Pedersen (Thor), presented his unbelievably captivating project. He will be travelling the whole world, to every single country, without ever setting foot on a plane. Already well on his way, Thor shows off his adventures in 65 countries through Youtube videos and an online social media presence, with a blog and Facebook page dedicated specifically to this project called “Once Upon a Saga” and his discoveries along the way.
Currently Thor is in St. Vincent & the Grenadines from which his Reddit post indicates him visiting through the remaining Caribbean islands, before crossing the high seas and heading to Africa. According to his vision, this journey is where “a stranger is a friend you’ve never met before”, wherein he had set out mainly to discover people, cultures, and life, breaking barriers and having one amazing adventure to reminisce about. Furthermore, he has been named goodwill ambassador for the Danish Red Cross, giving an added purpose to the whole journey.
Here is how Thor’s route plan through 203 countries looks like:
When he began his journey on October 10, 2013 at 10:10 am, the world didn’t really know much about the project. With a year’s passing and another 3 years more or less to go, the excitement of the project is catching on. With $20 a day for his budget, he has to live rather frugally, taking the cheaper options when he can and sleeping on his hammock when he can’t. Food leftovers in hostels help reduce daily costs while public transportation is pretty cheap and enough to get him by for the day. Spending an average of a week in each country, Thor is able to really get the feel for the places. It’s interesting to see where he ends up next! You can check out the “Once Upon a Saga” blog for more information and to keep with his travels!
We love this funny Thor’s video showing a few seconds of him hopping on one leg at each of 12 countries of South America :
